How do dermal fillers work?
Dermal fillers are the application of hyaluronic acid just beneath the skin. This is a hygroscopic compound which when found naturally in the skin has a gel-like consistency. It can be used to fill wrinkles and return a plump appearance to sagging areas of skin. It is a less disruptive method of reshaping facial features, like emphasising cheekbones or plumping lips.

They are reversible

Alternatively, we can apply gentle massage to the injection site, allowing the fillers to move and hopefully achieve the desired look.
They don’t like sunlight!
There is a reason why sunbeds and sunbathing are linked to ageing skin.
UV rays break down the naturally occurring hyaluronic acid in the skin and so if you use sunbeds, your skin is more prone to wrinkling. If you have lip fillers Kent, the same is true; the acid in the fillers will break down faster if you use tanning beds or sunbathe, so you will need to avoid extensive exposure to UV light, especially in the 48 hours post-injection.
Their lifespan may differ

It is advised to avoid putting on lipsticks or attending dental check-ups during this time, to prevent unnecessary pressure which can prolong the swelling. But if you notice that the swelling is not reducing and is becoming uncomfortable, you will need to have a follow-up appointment with our team.
Age is a factor
Along with smoking and UV exposure, the age at which you had the injections applied will also impact on their lifespan.
Generally, if you are under the age of 40, the 6-9 month lifespan is an average, but if you are older, an average of 5-6 months is more typical.
